I went ahead and looked at the start up again:
UPS daemon started on Port /dev/cua0 Starting upsd version 1.0 SN# 025051997 Power Status: Bad
OK, you're alright to switch off your computer ;-) Tell me what that [something] you mentioned in your previous message is, then I'll tell you how to fix it...
This is puzzling since I do not have a UPS. But could this bad power be causing sluggishness and freeze ups?
I doubt that the UPS would be causing the sluggishness you're experiencing.
PS. Could my problems stem from a lack of swap space, how do I determine how much swap space I have at a command prompt since I've got a lot of freezing?
Ah yes, I'd flagged those two messages of yours to have a look into... Right how much RAM and swap space do you have? And the processor? These problems could well stem from a lack of swap space. To see how much swap space you have, type 'free' (without the quotes) at the command prompt and send the output.

After reinstalling 6.1 and getting a running system, the System V style startup says [something] POWER: BAD This time around, I've installed Woodchuck hardware debugger, is that where the message is coming from? The system is slow and sluggish -is it possible that my power supply has gone bad or maybe there is a bug in my mother board? meanwhile, I'm terrified of turning on my computer.
What does the [something] say? Does it say argo or something similar?
Do you have a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply)?
Hope that helps some more, Chris -- Apologies to everyone who has been waiting for replies off me over the past few weeks - I've been away from my computer. I'll try to catch up with my email over the coming days, but don't be surprised if you get a reply in a month's time... __ _ -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chris Reeves /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ICQ# 22219005 _\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\ -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
