Hi, I'm trying to install jakarta-tomcat using yast2 on SuSE Linux 9.0 on a AMD64 box, and can't because I'm told that sdk1.2.x is required and not available. What am I missing? Many thanks, Doug doug@moximedia.com
You need to install the Java development kit as well as the runtime. I think its under Software Install->Development->Languages->Java. It should list one of the 1.4 versions of the SDK. -----Original Message----- From: Doug Cates [mailto:doug@moximedia.com] Sent: Saturday, June 05, 2004 12:22 PM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: [SLE] jakarta-tomcat installation problem v9.0 Hi, I'm trying to install jakarta-tomcat using yast2 on SuSE Linux 9.0 on a AMD64 box, and can't because I'm told that sdk1.2.x is required and not available. Richard, Thanks. There is no Java jre or sdk listed there at all. I've tried installing a RPM from Sun called j2sdk-1_4_2_04-linux-i586.rpm, but this doesn't seem to help with the sdk1.2.x message... The selections in Development->Languages->Java are: jcc-java 3.3.1 jikes 1.18 jmk 1.5 In Development->Libraries->Java, I see: JTOpen 4.1 JTOpen-doc 4.1 libgcj-devel 3.3.1 Maybe it would work if I had an old 1.2.x Java rpm, i don't know.... Any other ideas you may have would be much appreciated. Thanks, Doug On Sat, 2004-06-05 at 13:09, Richard Mixon (qwest) wrote:

Doug, You must be looking somewhere different. OK, I SEE. My apologies - I did not notice that you were using SuSE 9.0, whereas I am using SuSE Pro 9.1 which has both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions included. It sounds like your classpath is not set properly if you are still getting the "sdk 1.2 message". From a shell run the command "java -version" and see what you get, it should look similar to: packrat# java -version java version "1.4.1_02" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1_02-b06) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.1_02-b06, mixed mode) It is really strange that no Java SDK would be include in SuSE 9.0 Professional for AMD64. Have you done a complete update of packages from SuSE? I know on the SLES 8 for AMD64, they slipstreamed new versions of Java into the Service Pack 3. Maybe using YOU to update might make an SDK available. I am sure it would be at least version 1.3, if not 1.4. Just, FYI, on a SuSE 9.1 Pro installation, I just went to to: Control Center->Yast2 Modules->Software->Install and Remove Software I then set Filter to: Package Groups. I then expanded the Package Groups hiearchy to: Development->Languages->Java There are three packages listed under Java: gcc-java java2 java2-jre The "java2" package is the version 1.4.2-129 of the Java SDK. Version 1.4 Sorry I cannot be of more help. - Richard -----Original Message----- From: Doug Cates [mailto:doug@moximedia.com] Sent: Saturday, June 05, 2004 2:02 PM To: Richard Mixon (qwest) Cc: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: RE: [SLE] jakarta-tomcat installation problem v9.0 Richard, Thanks.
