I have a new installation of Suse 9.1 from ftp plus on line updates, via yast2. Apache2 dies during startup if I have both php and mod_auth_mysql modules loaded. It's enough to remove either one and apache starts without problems. Here's the startup output: sudo /usr/sbin/httpd2 -f /etc/apache2/httpd.conf -e debug -X [Mon Jul 26 07:33:14 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module access_module [Mon Jul 26 07:33:14 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module actions_module [Mon Jul 26 07:33:14 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module alias_module [Mon Jul 26 07:33:14 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module auth_module [Mon Jul 26 07:33:14 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module auth_dbm_module [Mon Jul 26 07:33:14 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module autoindex_module [Mon Jul 26 07:33:14 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module cgi_module [Mon Jul 26 07:33:14 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module dir_module [Mon Jul 26 07:33:14 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module env_module [Mon Jul 26 07:33:14 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module expires_module [Mon Jul 26 07:33:14 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module include_module [Mon Jul 26 07:33:14 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module log_config_module [Mon Jul 26 07:33:14 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module mime_module [Mon Jul 26 07:33:14 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module negotiation_module [Mon Jul 26 07:33:14 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module setenvif_module [Mon Jul 26 07:33:14 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module ssl_module [Mon Jul 26 07:33:14 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module suexec_module [Mon Jul 26 07:33:14 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module userdir_module [Mon Jul 26 07:33:14 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module php4_module [Mon Jul 26 07:33:14 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module mysql_auth_module Segmentation fault These are the versions of packages I have installed: apache2-2.0.49-27.5 apache2-prefork-2.0.49-27.8 apache2-mod_auth_mysql-20030510-204 apache2-mod_php4-4.3.4-43.11 php4-4.3.4-43.11 php4-mysql-4.3.4-43.11 mysql-4.0.18-32 mysql-shared-4.0.18-32 Anyone seen this or know of a solution or something else to look for? There is a clash between symbols of php4-recode and libmysqlclient. I think it should not happen due to the used dlopen() flags... I'll look into it. Peter

Peter, thanks for this reply. Is there anything I can do to help debug this? John

Peter,

I commented out the recode.so line in /etc/php.ini and the server starts so this adds weight to the idea that the problem is a conflict between recode and the other modules. (BTW moving recode.so above the imap and mysql entries in php.ini didn't work.) Can I realistically run a webserver and php without recode? What do I lose? Or should I move to an earlier Suse version to avoid this issue? John
