Hi,
When I configure X automatically with sax2 (sax2 -a) sometimes my standard 3 buttons mouse is configured with the imps2 protocol instead of the ps2 protocol. Next, the mouse won't work correctly (it bounces all over the screen) because of this.
Does anyone has a clue why this happens?
Yes, wrong drivers...
What is on protocol level the exact difference between ps2 and imps2?
Don't know, and I suspect neither did SuSE; However, SuSE has a driver for a "ps/2 type mouse" and not a "imps2 type mouse" that works for your mouse.
Oh yeah, I'm using 7.3 Pro with XFree 4.1.0. Met vriendelijke groet / Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Kind Regards, H.J. ten Berge
I have a similar problem, only it shows up if lose "lilo" and have to "re-install" off my CD.... then the auto detect if comes up with the wrong mouse....ditto YaST2 My machine was made by Gateway, and came with a Microsoft 3 button mouse which is marked on the bottom: "PS/2 compatible" It is made (apparently) by IntelliMouse and Yast2 auto detects it as an "Imps2" with the same results that Harry reported: -> The mouse won't work correctly; -> the cursor bounces all over the screen. I tried sax2 once (but since I don't have a fancy monitor) I killed the set-up and was able to get back to my old settings, because the cursor started bouncing around .. so I imagine if I did use sax2 I would have his same problem My System Admin says the cure is to buy a good "standard mouse" because the real problem is Microsoft probably won't release the drivers (you may find this hard to believe but MS thinks they invented the 3 button mouse)--- there is probably a hack that could be done on my config files that says in effect: ### ### imps2 = ps/2 ### but that is beyond me at this point in time. Any hints... or is a new mouse the way to go? If so, what is a good mouse? -- __________________________________________________________________ Try AOL and get 1045 hours FREE for 45 days! http://free.aol.com/tryaolfree/index.adp?375380 Get AOL Instant Messenger 5.1 for FREE!
