Hi, I've tried Xgl + Compiz with a Nvidia FX5200 card. I'm using nvidia drivers version 8756. As it is said on the page http://en.opensuse.org/Xgl#Hardware_Advisory , video is slow, using any option of any video player (mplayer, totem-gstreamer, xine, vlc). Is this trouble being solved ? How can I help ? How can I be informed when this problem will be solved ? Does this trouble comes from Xgl ? Xorg ? Nvidia drivers ? Don't worry, I was not sure this is the best mailing list, but I've not found the right one. You tell me about suse-linux-e, but is there a list for Xgl, specifically ? AFAIK, there's not. In fact, I'm using Xgl, but not on SuSe... sorry ;-) So, I'll post on suse-linux-e but I think a (some) ml(s) about Xgl coudl exist and even a specific bug tracker. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems that the bugtracker is about OpenSUSE. Thanks, Jean

Perhaps your chosen distribution has a mailing list? I can tell you that xgl runs like a scalded cat on speed for me on suse 10.1 with nvidia graphics, but there's no way to relate that to your unspecified "other distro". Joe
Please keep this mailing list free for discussion about the openSUSE project. For general questions related to released SUSE Linux versions (eg. 9.3, 10.0, 10.1) please use suse-linux-e mailing list:- suse-linux-e-subscribe@suse.com There are a number of other mailing lists that my be appropriate for you needs the details for these lists are on the openSUSE.org website at this page:- http://en.opensuse.org/Communicate#Mailing_Lists Please first read the openSUSE mailinglist netiquette:- http://en.opensuse.org/Opensuse_mailing_list_netiquette The mail archives for openSUSE mailinglists:- http://lists.opensuse.org/archive/ The mail archives for SUSE mailinglists:- http://lists.suse.com/archive/ And remember, Have a lot of fun :)

The only thing that will help here is time (there was a time once when I
was hacking, not writing emails so much. No offense ;)

It actually works fine for me on an AMD64 system. nVidia Corporation NV34, GeForce FX 5200 (MSI branded), nVidia binary driver (installed using the tiny-nvidia-installer) and a TwinView setup. Xine plays DVDs like a charm and mpg/avi/... etc work fine as well (in totem, mplayer, xine). The only issue I have is that MythTV crashes the Xgl as soon as playback starts. But there seems to be a solutions well (-> http://moosy.blogspot.com/2006/04/mythtv-and-xglcompiz.html). BB
