Hello all! I have found this rather odd thing about my system.. One of th etwo drives spins down for 5 seconds twice a day.. Once around 11:00 and once around 22:20 Nothing in the logs at all! No cronjobs that affect powersave.. No settings in BIOS... Where shall i look to see whet jolts the drive?? -- /Rikard ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- email : rikard.j@rikjoh.com web : http://www.rikjoh.com mob: : +46 (0)763 19 76 25 ------------------------ Public PGP fingerprint ---------------------------- < 15 28 DF 78 67 98 B2 16 1F D3 FD C5 59 D4 B6 78 46 1C EE 56 >

Probably in the documentation of the drive. Is it an older model? In earlier times the drives would recalibrate regularly. It sounds as if this would fit the symptom. In any case, if the drive supports SMART monitor it with smartd or run smartctl periodically to check the SMART status of the drive. Seems i even had three drives.... The drives i have in it is: hda: IBM-DPTA-372050, ATA DISK drive hdb: FUJITSU MPE3170AT, ATA DISK drive hdc: Pioneer CD-ROM ATAPI Model DR-A14S 0104, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive hdd: Maxtor 6Y080L0, ATA DISK drive hda being the /boot/root/swap drive hdb is /home hds is /mnt/local I have no idea which of the three that spins down... The system doesnt glitch as the drive spins down so it seems like the hda is ok. -- /Rikard ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- email : rikard.j@rikjoh.com web : http://www.rikjoh.com mob: : +46 (0)763 19 76 25 ------------------------ Public PGP fingerprint ---------------------------- < 15 28 DF 78 67 98 B2 16 1F D3 FD C5 59 D4 B6 78 46 1C EE 56 >
