Hi, I connected my usb2 pen drive (FAT32) to my laptop (Toshiba A70) running suse 10 beta4 and noticed that the speed of transfer to the drive was about 30Kb/s. Is there a problem with the usb 2 support in suse 10 beta4? Any help is appreciated. Steve Lamb

The device could be mounted with the "sync" mount option, which tends to slow things down much. So check if it is mounted with sync, and if so, mount it without sync. But then always remember to 'umount' the device before you unplug it... -- ~Randy

not using sync could lead to data corruption. There are known issues that USB 2 device do not using the right speed mode. -- Adrian Schroeter SuSE AG, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nuernberg, Germany email: adrian@suse.de

Not if you follow Randy's advice and are careful to unmount the device before disconnecting it. Nonetheless, considering the kind of use made of these devices and the ease with which they can be yanked from their connectors, I'd consider it a dubious choice not to mount them with the synchronous write option.

I don't see what that has to do with synchronous file-system writes. Randall Schulz

I´ve got the same problem with my Toshiba Satellite Notebook and a 512 MB USB2 stick here. Copying files is really slow (~30kb/s), and when I mount it without sync the transfer rate isn´t much better (~32kb/s) but the copied files are all corrupted.
