My video card GeForce 5500 with 128 MB is capable of 1680x1050, but one of my fiends who is very fluent in electronics and PC hardware told me that this card is quite old, and therefore, it is capable of HD 16:10 resolution ONLY in VGA mode, and NOT DVI. Additionally, he said, it may suffer from glitches artifacts anyway.
Your friend is right if you are using the opensource nvidia driver (nv) In case of DVI the nv driver needs the bios to check the mode. The bios
Yes, but this is not due to the card being old. It's due to being cheap, and having only a single link DVI interface. It's true, that for the nv driver the BIOS has an important role as well. I was missing the fact that Andrei used the NV driver, as he talked about 'modprobe nvidia' :-]
Moreover, I have decided to give another try, and installed SuSE 10.2RC1 on another hard drive. There were NO WAY I could make it work in 1680x1050, no matter of VGA or DVI mode, even with 100% config supplied by Basil.
Hmm, this sounds strange to me
Probably due to using the nv driver, again. Matthias -- Matthias Hopf <mhopf@suse.de>, SuSE labs, Zimmer 3.2.06, Tel. 74053-715 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
