modem support for SuSE 8 and strange rpm error.
All, I have been told that SuSE 8 supports winmodems "out of the box". If so how do I invoke the drivers? The target box is a Dell Latitude LS 400 with a ActionTec modem based on the Lucent Venus USB (Pegasus) chipset. I tried installing the latest LT package and ran into the very odd dependency error. First my kernel version (straight SuSE 8.0):
uname -a Linux linux 2.4.18-4GB #1 Wed Mar 27 13:57:05 UTC 2002 i686 unknown
When installing ltmodem-kv_2.4.18_4GB rpm complains:
rpm -i ltmodem-kv_2.4.18_4GB-6.00c2-1.i386.rpm error: failed dependencies: kernel = 2.4.18-4GB is needed by ltmodem-kv_2.4.18_4GB-6.00c2-1
Overriding dependency errors leads to system hangs. Any suggestions on how to get the silly thing working? Thanks much, Bill Burton
