[opensuse] VirtualBox. Latest extension pack will not install
12.1 Hi I upgraded to VB 4.1.12-77245 from the 1.10 version. The extension pack will not install: 'The installer failed with exit code 127. Error creating textual authentication agent: Error opening current controlling terminal for the process ('dev/tty) No such device or address' Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005) Component: ExtPackManager Interface: IExtPackManager {3295e6ce-b051-47b2-9514-2c588bfe7554} (The guest additions install fine.) Any ideas? Thanks, L x -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

happened to me too, while i was running the 'awesome' window manager. when i tried the same thing under KDE (4.8.2), a prompt for the root password popped up, and the extension pack installed fine. i guess there's some internal wiring that doesn't work with all DEs or WMs. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

yes, and there's supposed to be a way to become root in the process when virtualbox was started as user. somehow that doesn't work anymore, due to different naming of the tty device it seems. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

notice the missing / in dev/tty?
Any ideas?

your $PWD is /, therefore dev/tty exists ;-) Bye, Berny -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hi It must be Oracle who changed it because for 4.1.10 I could do it as me from within the GUI. Now only root. No problem, but could you explain your $PWD is /, Thanks, L x -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

your $PWD is /,
the path dev/tty is valid if your $PWD (present working directory) is "/", root as "dev" is below root, but it is not valid for any other location, ie: /home/user iow: dev/tty equates to ./dev/tty which only is valid for $PWD=/ -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
