Anyone have any experience in loading linux onto an HP netserver LH II (P2 model)? Having a world of problems with it. The unit is stock with a netraid controller. I removed that after a few attempts that gave an unknown partition on the RAID, which I built in BIOS. I tried installing an older Diamond VGA card and disabling the onboard, which helped along with the removal of RAID card. I *DO* have to say that I see a massive difference between SuSE and other distros when trying to load it. First try was my tried and true SuSE 8.2. Second attempt Debian, third attempt was RedHat. SuSE bailed last... Tolerated some weirdomatic NMI's from the system better than others. Once I get the system up on at least ONE drive off of the AIC 78xx onboard controller, I'm certain I can get a RAID going. If not from the netraid controller (doubt that'll fail then), a software RAID. But first I need to load and boot the *#&$ system. Will post more detailed failure dumps on Monday as I have to go play Army this weekend... But it WOULD be nice to use this server here since I ended up "inherited" it...
Stephen, I've successfully installed 8.2 onto a Netserver LH2 Pro in the past. Had a bit of fun with the netraid controller but I *think* I downloaded a module from HP in the end. It's a while ago now and I don't work there any more so I can't check. It is possible with SuSE though. Damian

I've installed several OS's on Netservers. Using the Navigator CD makes it much easier. The Navigator CD is like Compaq's SmartStart CD. You need to buy it from HP, go to their website and order it online or call their toll-free phone #.
