[opensuse] Why is pdfchain not build for 15.0 Oss when it has been in Oss since before 42.3 - it's CRITICAL
All, Devs Why is pdfchain no build for 15.0? It was there in 42.3. It's critical for anyone who needs to assemble pdf documents, such as faxes, exhibits, court filings, etc.. It is a wonderful gui that allows to you rotate and assemble many pdfs into a final document. I had a settlement and closing documents due by the 18th in Federal Court for the Sourthern Dist. of Texas and went to use pdfchain that was present before the zypper dup -- only to find out it is no longer on my system -- what?? It's something that was built and part of OSS, not some tangent repo. Can somebody go re-enable the build to add 15.0 and 15.1 to the build lists. This one caught me off guard. -- David C. It seems it was deleted because it was not ported to modern Java. Then again, Debian has a more modern version that works with openjdk, so maybe someone that cares about this should package the dependencies for openSUSE https://packages.debian.org/sid/pdftk-java https://gitlab.com/pdftk-java/pdftk For reference, this package was removed just over 2 years ago from Factory, 536065 State:accepted By:dimstar_suse When:2017-10-28T12:21:45 delete: openSUSE:Factory/pdfchain Review by Group is accepted: legal-auto(licensedigger) Review by Group is accepted: factory-auto(factory-auto) Review by Group is accepted: factory-staging(staging-bot) Review by Package is accepted: Publishing/pdfchain(pluskalm) Review by User is accepted: repo-checker(repo-checker) Review by Project is accepted: openSUSE:Factory:Staging:B(dimstar_suse) Review by Group is accepted: factory-maintainers(dimstar_suse) Descr: No pdftk ==> no pdfchain Pdfchain is only a GUI for pdftk, and has a runtime dependency on it. Since pdftk is gone, this needs to be dropped too. It no longer requires to full java garbage collector. gcc-gcj is fine and it uses the current gcc version. pdfchain simply requires: Requires: hicolor-icon-theme Requires: pdftk >= 2.0 There is no reason it should not be in OSS. The 42.3 .srpm builds fine on 15.0 with a simple rpmbuld --rebuild pdfchain-0.4.4.2-12.1.src.rpm It should be in OSS for 15.0 and beyond. -- David C.
