list of distro content
question about the content of the distro are very frequent. The answer as to look at the index file is acurate but not handy. so we need a tool to show the list of available packages, the version, this for any distro (at least stable and current dev version). I don't think the wiki is the place for that I _do_ belieive that Novell have some place internally where all this data is stored - else I don't see how they can manage the distro :-) So could it be possible to add on a task list the setup of a public database interface giving this info? This would be a great 'plus' for SUSE Linux :-) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos
distrowatch.com does exactly that.

Yes, what makes you think there are more. :-D Off to the pub. makeSUSEdvd seems to work. I need a drink. RC1 look great BTW. houghi -- Nutze die Zeit. Just a little list of highlights could make very happy. 1. KDE, Gnome, Kernel, X.org, etc. 2. Most important changes with 10.0 pd: Distrowatch don't have that's information. -- Marcel Mourguiart

http://en.openSUSE/org/Pin Just start editing. ;-) I think a powerfull and underestimated tool like `pin` deseves its own page. I use an adapted version all the time. How is ARCHIVES.gz created? I would like to include it in makeSUSEdvd, especially with the -a option. An official openSUSE website around this would also be great, although I can imagine that the buildserver will have something like it. houghi -- Nutze die Zeit. Yuu can use the following file: http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/10.1-i386/base/contlist.bz2 It shows which packages are available. It's intended use is described here: http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/home.html#contents More data might be available in following format: bin;ftp.suse.com/suse/update/10.1/rpm/i586/aaa_base-10.1-15.i586.rpm;aaa_base;10.1-15;i586;;MD5_OK;GPG_OK;060404;314427 d This info should be accessible from this location, but it is not (don't know why): ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/share/suse101/cache/ Among other things it gives information, about the size and the date the package was added to the repository.... -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

The apt repository generation is "outsourced" to ftp4. So the cache directory is only there. Cheers -e -- Eberhard Moenkeberg (emoenke@gwdg.de, em@kki.org)

I looked at it and found no content like ARCHIVES.gz. ARCHIVES.gz has much more then just the name of the rpm.
From the first lines: --------------- Here comes contents of all files: ------------------- ------ *.rpm *.tar.gz *.tar.Z *.tgz *.taz *.tar.z *.tar *.deb ------- ------------------ found in any subdirectory ------------------------
You also get the RPM info and such. Not just the files. Especially the Summary and DEscription are interesting. houghi -- Nutze die Zeit. But than again, you're missing the latest greatest rpms and the community provided rpms. Try to find e.g. gramps or kolab in the pin archive, you won't succeed with the data above you'll.... -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

I do not want to find the latest and greates. I want to know what is on the DVD I made with makeSUSEdvd and where I added my own RPM's. I want to have the RPM info available as in ARCHIVES.gz. Yes, this is possible to get with find and rpm. And with reverse engeneering I most likely be able to make such a file myself. It would be nice to get the script that does it, so I don't have to reverse engineer too much. :-) houghi -- Nutze die Zeit. Nice. Although it has the same 'problem' as the pin on the CD, the row of e.g. . /DVD1/suse/i586/slrn-0.9.8.0-28.i586.rpm: On the website that is not such an issue, as you can scroll left to right. On a terminal it realy sucks. :-/ houghi -- Nutze die Zeit. Sie ist das Kostbarste, was wir haben, denn es ist unwiederbringliche Lebenszeit.
