Login problems with SuSE 8.0
Folks, Apologies if this has already been discussed before. I have already searched the archives but nothing comes close to what I am experiencing. Configuration: Pentium 2 GHz 512 MB RAM 40 GB HDD Kernel, standard that comes with SuSE 8.0 Partitions /, /usr, /home, /boot, /opt, /swap and so on. Plenty of space available on these partitions. I am running suse 8.0 on a x86 platform that is running into a problem with the login process. The system seems to start up correctly, but on trying to login to the system as a normal user or even a root user, there is no response from the system to any of the commands typed in. The system is responsive to ping. Giving a command like "ls -l" has no response from the system. After logging in to the system there is no way to log out also, unless I give it the three finger salute (CTRL+ALT+DEL). Any thoughts on this greatly appreciated.
