Hi all Have managed to get Xfce running...and if I'm not mistaken blackbox or enlightenment can be used as a windowmanager..however I'm not sure what functions are available if running another manager than the default one...and finally, I tried runninjg "startx enlightenment" but to no avail, after installing Xfce this command doesnt work? Why is that? Thankfull for any and all responses Thomas

Xfce _is_ a window manager. Blackbox and enlightenment are also window managers. You can only use one window manager at a time with you X session. If you want to run enlightenement, you need to install enlightenment. Best Regards, Keith -- LPIC-2, MCSE, N+ Sing blue silver Got spam? Get spastic http://spastic.sourceforge.net

XFce is *not* a window manager. XFce is a desktop environment. Example: I'm running Fvwm2 (which is a window manager) and XFce at the same time. Proof: from www.xfce.org <quote> XFce is a lightweight desktop environment for various UNIX systems. </quote> -tathis.

Good, that means I can actually read :) But..how do you implement another windowmanager than xfwm?..I was thinking of running either blackbox or enlightenment? Thomas On Mon, 30 Sep 2002, Rouvas Stathis wrote:

Well, all I did is start up Fvwm, download and compiled xfce and then run the xfce executable (not xfwm) inside Fvwm. And that it. I just wanted to see how XFce looked like so I didn't bother with any customizations (BTW I didn't liked it much so it doesn't live in my machine anymore). In Fvwm you can specify which programs should start at startup inside the .fvwm2rc config file. I suppose something siliar is possible with other window managers as well. Have fun. -Stathis. Hi Again I just figured out how to run Xfce with blackbox as windowmanager...very nice indeed!! Still...just one little question left, and I do apologize if its a very stupid one. But since I'm running XFCE and blackbox could someone elaborate on what Xfce desktop environment gives me other than fewer resources (memory) being used to run it. Can I remove KDE completely? I have found very little in the way of documentation on both Xfce and Blackbox...but strating with the egg, I would appreciate if anyone can point me to som documentation on Xfce..their homepage doesnt provide much in the way of resources (unless I missed something). Thanks all Thomas On Mon, 30 Sep 2002, Rouvas Stathis wrote:

Can I remove KDE completely? Apologies for the late response ... I use XFCE exclusively and would be happy to send you ~/.xfce from my SuSE 8.0 machine. It may be of some assistance to you. > > I have found very little in the way of documentation on both Xfce and > Blackbox...but strating with the egg, I would appreciate if anyone can > point me to som documentation on Xfce..their homepage doesnt provide much > in the way of resources (unless I missed something).
