Hi,
rc.config is with START_HYLAFAX="yes"
Nevertheless, each time I want to send a fax, I first have to re-run faxsetup from root, otherwise i receive the message "connection denied".
Hi,
I am afraid that I am not very expert, but have you tried the following:
What does
Hello ! The install process was respected (repeated it now to be sure but no change) b4 faxsetup, the ps gives : root 878 0.0 0.2 1484 532 tty1 S 18:46 0:0 grep hylafax after faxsetup, it gives : uucp 994 0.8 0.4 2824 1044 ? s 18.47 0:0 /usr/lib/fax/hfax d -i hylafax -o 4557 -s 444 root 1007 0.0 0.2 1484 532 tty1 R 18:47 grep hylafax still have to run faxsetup b4 faxing. During boot no hylafax start message appears. When running faxsetup, there is a message abt absent egetty, but it also says not fatal. I don't have egetty in my system, neither found it in the files list of my DVD 7.1Pro. Rgds Geoff wrote:

Hi,
I am afraid that I am not very expert, but have you tried the following:
What does
report before and after you run faxsetup? Here is the result from doing that on my system :
uucp 6724 0.4 0.2 2612 976 ? S 17:16 0:00 /usr/lib/fax/hfaxd -i hylafax -o 4557 -s 444
If hylafax is not running then bear in mind that, according to the SuSE manual, faxsetup must be run before you set START_HYLAFAX="yes". Maybe it would be a good idea, therefore, to do as follows:
(1) Set START_HYLAFAX="No"
(2) Reboot. There is probably a more elegant way than rebooting, but at least you will be sure of what is happening.
(3) Run faxsetup.
(4) Set START_HYLAFAX="Yes"
(5) Reboot.
I am really just guessing about all this - but my hylafax works well, and I think that I ran faxsetup before I set START_HYLAFAX="Yes".
Regards,
Geoff

still have to run faxsetup b4 faxing. During boot no hylafax start message appears.

I seem to remember that I saw the egetty message - I do not think that is your problem. I am afraid, however, that I cannot work out where your problem is. The only thought I can offer is as follows. I do not use a graphical login, therfore I see the boot messages. One of the last messages I see is the starting Hylafax ... done. Do you see that ? Surely you would see a "failed" if START_HYLAFAX="yes" was not working? Geoff _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Hi! I remember in the past I got that message. Just now i don't (also start ascii). Neither failure. Simply no mention of it. Rgds Geoff wrote:

Well, that seems very odd to me. Look in /sbin/init.d/rc2.d - Do you have the files S30hylafax and K30hylafax in there? Geoff _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com
Hi ! No, I don't. those directories (rc1.d, rc2.d rc3.d,....) are empyty. I am curious to know if nothing to do with Ghostscript ? Indeed, I point out ps2fax points to ps2fx.gs. My Acrobat reader works OK but my K pdf viewer (Ghostview) shows the pages numbers but no image. Have to pint out that I got XFree 4.1.0, KDE 2.2.1 and kernel 2.4.16 on board. Nevertheless kernel is innocent since I had the problem under 2.4.0 (comes with SuSE 7.1) yet. Rgds Jacek Geoff wrote:

I have to be very careful about how I advise you here, because I am not at all expert on SuSE's initialisation scripts. Also I use 7.0 and things may be different in your version. I have many files in rc2.d and rc3.d, including the hylafax files I mentioned. I know that those files are used at different run-levels, but I am not sure if they are actually read at boot-time - maybe someone else can help here please ? On the basis of my own limited knowledge it does seem strange and (perhaps), important that those files are missing, but I do not know how that could come about. I can personally see no reason why Ghostscript should be the cause. I will think about the problem, but for the moment I cannot help more. rc.config is with START_HYLAFAX="yes" Nevertheless, each time I want to send a fax, I first have to re-run faxsetup from root, otherwise i receive the message "connection denied".
Have you tried doing /etc/rc.d/hylafax start If that works then make sure you have rc.d/hylafax linked to /etc/rc.d/rc5.d/S##hylafax? On my SuSE 7.1 install I don't know what I did but the link in rc5.d was missing so whenever I rebooted hylafax did not start, I had to start by hand. Greg Engel
Hi ! the startx works, but no /etc/rc.d/rcXd.d/Sxyhylafax file (neither in etc/init.d). rc.d points to init.d Rgds genge1 wrote:

Hi ! In fact the reaction is as follows : 1.-boot, logging as root, startx, SuSEfax : coonection denied 2.- from bash, run /etc...hylafax start : connection OK, in SuSEfax appears hylafax runnib but modem doesn't show expecting to be ready. Sending fax fails 3.- from bash run faxsetup (it is a very short re-run) : everything OK Rgds Jacek genge1 wrote:
