Ok, what happends when you issue "poweroff" in the command line as root ? does the system turns off ?
"poweroff" ends up with the same result. Restarted.

Ok, - has the motherboard manufacturer released any BIOS updates that you have not installed ? - try kernel_head : zypper ar -f -r http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/HEAD/standard/Kernel:HEAD.... zypper dup --from Kernel_HEAD - if nothing of that helps, fill a bug report against the kernel. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I never looked for/updated BIOS of the motherboard. If that's what to take to fix this problem, I might skip it and go to a new motherboard. I was thinking about that for some time by now. It's getting old. I don't remember when I got this Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H. If any of these options fixes the problem, I'll let you guys know. It might take a while since it's not critical but just annoying. Thanks, Toshi -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It is a suggestion, usually BIOSes have this kind of nasty bugs, according to the info you sent you are using BIOS F3 current version is F12B -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

You were right! After I updated BIOS to F12B, it powered down normally first time for last a couple of years. I never suspected because when I mounted Ubuntu drive on the same machine about a year ago, it powered down as expected. I guess OpenSuSE uses different BIOS features/options from ones Ubuntu uses. Thank you for your patience and help. Toshi -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

In order to keep costs as low as possible and have a fast time to market, most consumer-oriented electronics have bios/firmware which are barely tested to comply with windows certification. Most however roll bug-fixes (and in some cases massive changes) via updates. The kernel has a never ending list of hacks to deal with bad firmware, but sometimes it cannot help. Good to know my advice was helpful :-D -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
