[SuSE Linux] Install -Failure
Greetings: I recently received a second 5.3 disc set from SuSE. Today I installed a complete system on another computer using this disc set. Interestingly enough when Yast calls for the second disc the red screen on death comes up with "incorrect disc", yet when i mount the disc and read its contents it looks ok to me. I have not had time to compare the discs from both sets yet (disc no.2) to see if there are any distinguishing errors but as stated it appears to be ok. Anyone run into this problem before? Thanks in advance. chris h - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

Maybe. When installing from the 2nd CD, yast stopped dead. I think it had some thing to do with one package - since I haven't tried to install as much since. bye.
Thanks in advance.

no I dont think this is the issue as yast asks for disc two, upon completion of disc one, and then the red screen comes up with the message thats it the incorrect disc....ha? The disc is simply not recognized by yast and I have not been able to find a work around. ch - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

I had a bad #1 CD when I got 5.3, but SuSE was quick to send a replacement. The problem only occured when I tried re-partitioning and on the origianl CD #1. If this is not your problem, you may have a bad CD and you need to contact suse@suse.de and feedback@suse.de with the exact problem. Are you sure you are using a 32-bit version of zip for dos/win? If you are not, pkzip will truncate the filename because it cannot handle long filenames. Linux certainly can! - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

Your not alone!. I purchased the 5.2 distribution nearly 3 months ago, and finally received a replacement cdrom #1( they mailed version 5.3) and I ended up wasting a day installing and reinstalling manually from #2 and #3, The problem seems to be with the low quality of the cdroms - the directories are readable, but the files are NOT. After 4 reinstalls - my system while booting up can't find 'cat'. Just my 2 cents. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Sun, 06 Dec 1998 23:09:02 -0500 chris herrnberger <chris123@netcom.ca> writes:
