I am currently using a Sound Blaster AWE64 Gold ISA sound card in my system and this seems to be the only problem I have in an otherwise great SuSE installation. Previously I had a Sound Blaster Vibra 16 ISA card that was detected and installed with no trouble. The motherboard died and when I replaced it I also switched to the AWE64 and reinstalled SuSE. I suppose that it could also be a problem with the new motherboard and not because of the AWE64 but I don't know what to do at this point. Does anyone use the AWE64 Gold sound card? Any suggestions to get this to work? Damon Register

Yeah, it's hard to believe, but this newsgroup used to be filled filled questions about isa awe cards. Now, they are fading into everyone's memory since all the newer motherboards are pci only. In /usr/src/linux/Documentation/Sound there are some docs for setting up the awe's. Basically you need to create another isapnp.conf for the awe64. I think the command was pnpdump > isapnp.conf. Then you have to have isapnp started at boottime, either with the kernel-mode isapnp or the user space isapnp. You should see a message at boottime, saying isapnp found the card, etc. Then you need to decide if you are going to use the OSS/Free drivers which come with the kernel, or the ALSA sound system. Yast2 has a sound setup module if you use ALSA, it probably will find the awe64, not sure though, I still have suse 7.2 going. You probably need to have isapnp going for the card, before you try yast2. -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation

That's what I did with Suse 6.2. But now yast2 should do this. At least, it really does that in my system with my Awe64 (not gold). I think the modules you need are the same. I installed the isapnp package btw, even if I think it is not the problem. Praise
