You should use hdparm to do this. Someone else on the list may be able to help you with this. For obvious reasons (I work for SuSE) I cannot.
The "not 100% native mode" statement means there is another bus besides and ISA bus...meaning a PCI bus. You can ignore this..it means nothing.
Yes, i have used this command, but it didn' t make any result root@linux:/home/max > hdparm -A1 -d1 -c1 -X34 -m16 -W1 /dev/hdb /dev/hdb: setting 32-bit I/O support flag to 1 setting multcount to 16 setting using_dma to 1 (on) HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted setting xfermode to 34 (multiword DMA mode2) setting drive read-lookahead to 1 (on) setting drive write-caching to 1 (on) multcount = 16 (on) I/O support = 1 (32-bit) using_dma = 0 (off) root@linux:/home/max > regards Massimo --- Genova ITALIA

Hi everibody, i find this message from my bootlog
<4>ALI15X3: IDE controller on PCI bus 00 dev 80 <4>ALI15X3: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later <4>ALI15X3: simplex device: DMA disabled <4>ide0: ALI15X3 Bus-Master DMA disabled (BIOS) <4>ALI15X3: simplex device: DMA disabled <4>ide1: ALI15X3 Bus-Master DMA disabled (BIOS)
so i can now understand why i can not start the DMA on my computer!
But now: how i can resolve this problem?
What does your BIOS settings look like is the are your HD working with DMA UDMA what ever is there <p>> With the new realese of the Kernel? I have now the 2.2.13.
Upgrading the kernel will help you catch up with the security points and possibly new features but not absolutely necessary to get your DMA on it is Hardware related as fas as I see -- Togan Muftuoglu toganm@turk.net 100% MS FREE Absolutely no component of Microsoft was used in the generation or posting of this e-mail.
