I would beg to differ with you on this. I also went the exact route outlined above and agree with it 100%. But, only as far as it goes. If I recall correctly I did get StarOffice installed and running, however, I blew it away and went the Applix and WordPerfect Route. I did not like the appearance of documnets produced by Star Office 3.1.

I managed to get version 4.0 downloaded last week and it is a differnet ballgame than 3.1. Understand that I haven't had a lot of time to work with it, but it appears that they have made some big strides to improve the suite. There are still some things that I want to examine further before passing judgement on it, but at this time it looks fairly good.

overwhelming at first. I have found the help files to be fairly complete -- at least to get one comfortable with the interface and begin working.

IMHO, this is a second or third generation product that has been improved a lot, and the price for an individual user is right -- free. It is a mega download -- almost 46M, but worth a look.
