Re: [S.u.S.E. Linux] star-office 2
According to me trying, installing Staroffice requires a "./setup" in the right directory. My installation script, however, is corrupt......Therefore I need an other one. B@N Frank Pawlak wrote:

What about an installation script ?
Sorry, your question doesn't parse. What installation script are you referring to? Frank

Thank you very much in advance.
I bought Caldera's Open Linux 1.1 back around June of '97 and they
Star
Office CD as part of the bundle.
What a waste. You're better off spending a few dollars for Applixware or Word Perfect. I cooould not get Star Office to install at all! I fiddled with
fiddled with config files - it was pure hell.
Star Office poses no threat to any of the other office suites or word
rpm's, processors.
There is no point in putting yourself through the agony.

I would beg to differ with you on this. I also went the exact route outlined above and agree with it 100%. But, only as far as it goes. If I recall correctly I did get StarOffice installed and running, however, I blew it away and went the Applix and WordPerfect Route. I did not like the appearance of documnets produced by Star Office 3.1.
I managed to get version 4.0 downloaded last week and it is a differnet ballgame than 3.1. Understand that I haven't had a lot of time to work with it, but it appears that they have made some big strides to improve the suite. There are still some things that I want to examine further before passing judgement on it, but at this time it looks fairly good.
As I see it today, it is a large and powerfull office suite, perhaps a
included a the little
overwhelming at first. I have found the help files to be fairly complete -- at least to get one comfortable with the interface and begin working.
IMHO, this is a second or third generation product that has been improved a lot, and the price for an individual user is right -- free. It is a mega download -- almost 46M, but worth a look.
