Yes Ill go along with that. I wanted to express my appreciation to the people on this group. Ive become fond of the personalized, mature nature here where pettiness and nitpicking doesn't exist. I've learned allot by reading this list and wanted to take a minute from RTFM to say. If you want to mount stuff as a user, you have to setup /etc/fstab. Add something like /dev/fd0 /floppy auto rw,noauto, user, sync 0 0 /dev/cdrom /cdrom iso9660 ro,noauto, user 0 0 to it (make sure that the directories /floppy and /cdrom exist). Then as a user you can mount with `mount /floppy' or `mount /cdrom'. Hi all I agree with the need to introduce the suggested changes in /etc/fstab. And if you plan to make the device mountable through kde's icons, I enclose one of my kdlnk files, as an example (maybe not the best, but it works). I use them so that normal users don't need to be familiar with the sintax of the mount command. Here's is my $HOME/Desktop/diskete.kdlnk file ============================================= # KDE Config File [KDE Desktop Entry] UnmountIcon=3floppy_unmount.xpm Comment[es]=Diskete MS-DOS MountPoint=/diskete Comment=MS-DOS floppy disk Comment[pt_BR]=Dispositivo com Sistema de Arquivos Icon=3floppy_mount.xpm Dev=/dev/fd0 ReadOnly=0 FSType=Default Type=FSDevice On Thu, 24 Dec 1998, Stefan Troeger wrote:

HI Jayel; /dev/mcd /cdrom iso9660 ro,noauto, user 0 0 /dev/fd0 /adisk msdos rw,noauto, user 0 0 Look in your fstab file, it's in /etc. Your floppy and cdrom should look about like this. Make sure that it has "user" in it. This will allow you to mount it. Then as a "user" you can say for example "mount /fd0" to mount your floppy. If this does not work send me a copy of your fstab file and we'll work on it. Hope this helps!
