Subversion 1.5.4 has been release but via the YaST updates I only get 1.5.0.rc9. Does anyone know a repository with a never version ?
Check here: http://software.opensuse.org/search
the latest version is: subversion-1.5.2-32.1

I use svn 1.5.4 compiled from sources on openSuSE 10.3 32 bits. If you want the latest version you should consider this option. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
I had problems getting the Apache Portable Runtime (APR). Checked it out from SVN as suggested by ./configure but then after the co, ./configure still failed, it couldn't find subversion-1.5.4/apr/configure. So I gave up and followed Ionut's link, as I only needed only a SVN client >=1.5.1. Where did you get APR ? On Fri, 14 Nov 2008 11:17:29 pm Bogdan Cristea wrote:

On another system, with openSuSE 11.0 on 64 bits, I have compiled svn 1.5.4 with apache support. I have only installed missing packages (as reported by configure) using yast. However, I have had some issues related to a missing library, libneon.a -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Thanks, I just found out that I do need 1.5.4 for a recent bug fix. Ouch... Does anyone have subversive 1.5.4 running on 11.0-32bit ? If so, how did you get/build it ? On Fri, 14 Nov 2008 11:33:01 pm Bogdan Cristea wrote:

Okay, got subversion 1.5.4 installed on 11.0 32-bit The main point was that apr/configure needs to be created via aps/.buildconf, then same for apr-util/configure. To do this, I wildly installed any package with a name close enough to what was requested step by step, from either software.opensuse.org or YaST Software Management. Hope that helps in the future :-) On Fri, 14 Nov 2008 11:33:01 pm Bogdan Cristea wrote:

DOH ! I think I've hit the same wall as Bogdan. The libneon is necessary to get svn running via the http protocol, which of course if crucial. But this somehow doesn't work, I get: "svn: Unrecognized URL scheme for 'https:/..." and svn --version shows no support for http. So back to the original question: "Has anyone subversion 1.5.4. running (with http) on 11.0 32-bit ???" Cheers, Diego

okay, I got it working with http and https. This is how you install subversion 1.5.4 on openSUSE 11: * get the following sources from http://subversion.tigris.org/servlets/ProjectDocumentList?folderID=260&expandFolder=74: o subversion-1.5.4.tar.gz o subversion-deps-1.5.4.tar.gz * extract both into the same directory * remove everything related to SVN via YaST Software Management * make sure openSSL is installed * (there may be other dependencies that do no come with subversion-deps that are required. I've gone through the INSTALL file and tried to get them from http://software.opensuse.org/search or YaST. Neon and APR are part of the subversion-deps, however, so don't worry about these) * clean up old svn stuff: rm -f /usr/local/lib/libsvn* rm -f /usr/local/lib/libapr* rm -f /usr/local/lib/libexpat* rm -f /usr/local/lib/libneon* * installation: sh ./autogen.sh ./configure --with-ssl make make install Hope that helps future non-geeks as well ;-) Diego -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

* installation:
sh ./autogen.sh ./configure --with-ssl make make install
be advised that openSUSE is an rpm based system and your install has bypassed the rpn database and other installs with overlapping dependencies may have problems and/or your system may become corrupt due to this. Consider the use of "checkinstall" as a replacement for "make install". This app will generate an rpm package and keep the system true. It also provides a much easier uninstall provision if needed. thankyou for the information/procedure. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Great advice, thanks. I was indeed aware/worried about this but do not have the skills of a linux geek. I'm a simple humble user who get's scared by install procedures like the one I gave earlier ;-) Looking forward to see that 1-Click install for SVN 1.5.4 hopefully soon. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Just tried this from scratch, but with checkinstall instead: ------------------------------- /usr/bin/install -c src/.libs/libneon.lai /usr/local/lib/libneon.la /usr/bin/install -c src/.libs/libneon.a /usr/local/lib/libneon.a chmod 644 /usr/local/lib/libneon.a chmod: changing permissions of `/usr/local/lib/libneon.a': No such file or directory make[1]: *** [install-lib] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/diego/software/subversion-1.5.4/neon' make: *** [external-install] Error 1 **** Installation failed. Aborting package creation. Cleaning up...OK Bye. ------------------------------- /usr/local/lib/libneon.a does indeed not exist. I do not know enough to help here, but perhaps one of the resident experts that frequent such as Pascal Bleser will notice and adivse. gud luk, -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
