Dear SuSE'ers I have some new FireWire devices and I need your advice on using them on SuSE 8.1 My sys is running stable now for months so I would like to add a 2 port FireWire card. I'm looking for others who have done this who will share their experiances. I've been able to determine that the process is similar to adding USB support; and that the devices are handled by the Hotplug system, but first the Firewire modules have to be added to the kernel or module.conf. Another option is to wait till I upgrade to 8.2 Opinions? Any one out there with good news, bad news, or gotchas that I should know about? Thanks to ALL ....................... I have only used FireWiare with my DV camera. My card is: 1394 FireWire Home DV Editing Kit Model NN2614 SIIG, Inc. www.siig.com It works on my SuSE 8.0 system out-of-box! There was a how-to on which packages from the SuSE DVD had to be installed. Can't remember which ones. If you search for ieee 1394 linux on google or something, I am sure you will find that link Salman

I also have only used firewire for my DV camera. I have a "Kouwell PCI to Firewire IEEE 1394 Host adapter" that i am using with Suse 8.0 The only thing I had to do was 2 modprobes. modprobe ohci1394 modprobe raw1394 After that my Camera was accessable using dvgrab to get the raw video to the computer.
