new ATI driver and suse 10.1, missing dependencies
Hi, I've just download the new ATI propriety driver. But in suse 10.1 one gets a missing dependency libexpat.so.0 is needed by fglrx_6_9_0_SUSE101-8.25.18-1.i386 In fact in suse 10.1 libexpat.so.0 isn't available but libexpat.so.1 is. Because of that I've tried to instalk with --nodeps option but I was unable to have 3D working. So I've choose to downgrade. If anyone knows a workable workaround please let me know. best regards, -- António Rodrigues Tomé artome@ubi.pt <---official e-mail address artome@gmail.com <---alternative security e-mail address http://www.dfisica.ubi.pt/~artome http://www.cgul.ul.pt/curric/cgul_tome.htm

best regards,
libexpat.so.0 is provided by compat-expat1 package. Install it with Yast. Also, Yast has this nice feature "search" where you can search which package provides what you need. -- -- Svetoslav Milenov (Sunny) Windows is a 32-bit extension to a 16-bit graphical shell for an 8-bit operating system originally coded for a 4-bit microprocessor by a 2-bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition.

Don't think that's going to work on 10.1 He needs libexpat.so.0 but 10.1 is providing libexpat.so.1 I had the same problems but went ahead with --nodeps anyway and got my lcd monitor to work. No 3D however. ATI needs to update their RPM files.

As I said - libexpat.so.0 is in compat-expat1. I see it in Yast. I can read that it provides this exact stuff. -- -- Svetoslav Milenov (Sunny) Windows is a 32-bit extension to a 16-bit graphical shell for an 8-bit operating system originally coded for a 4-bit microprocessor by a 2-bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition.

Strange..... no matter what kind of a search I do under 10.1 Yast, I find no package called compat-expat1. And a 'provides' search finds no result for libexpat.so.0 This is with the retail DVD. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. Thats strange... Anyway, heres the link to the package: http://mirrors.kernel.org/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.1/inst-source/suse/i58... Thats the kernel.org mirror, you can find the package on some other mirror near you. Saludos Azael -- -- El mundo apesta y vosotros apestais tambien --

I've just downgrade and in my crt display I have 3D, with the previous driver version! Because it is not urgent for me I've not test anything else, but maybe a symbolic link of libexpat.so.1 to libexpat.so.0 may work for you!
ATI needs to update their RPM files.

Nope.... I did the symlink but rpm didn't buy it. Still had the dependency probelm.

I use internet install sources for Yast: opensuse/distribution/SL-10.1/inst-source/ and the non-oss-inst-source I do not know which one of them provides the compat-expat1 package, but it is sure there. -- -- Svetoslav Milenov (Sunny) Windows is a 32-bit extension to a 16-bit graphical shell for an 8-bit operating system originally coded for a 4-bit microprocessor by a 2-bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition.

Strange I see from the Bruce Marshall mail that someone as previous answered my e-mail! But I've not received that mail! The solution here presented (I do not know by whom because I do not have the headings) do not worked! The dependencies are solved but the driver do not work proprely. So once more I downgrade and I'm going to wait for another driver release. It seems that the missing deopendence was not the main issue! Could it be that my Gmail account is loosing mails or it was only delayed?? best regards, -- António Rodrigues Tomé artome@ubi.pt <---official e-mail address artome@gmail.com <---alternative security e-mail address http://www.dfisica.ubi.pt/~artome http://www.cgul.ul.pt/curric/cgul_tome.htm
