Connecting SLED10 Into MS Active Directory
Has anybody tried to connect SLED10 into an MS Active Directory environment? I am getting Samba 'winbind' errors when I use YaST Windows Domain Membership'. I have to edit /etc/samba/smb.conf and set up the proxy settings to authenticate into Active Directory. When I run 'Windows Domain Membership' and join my domain it says I have successfully jointed but I get error a Samba 'winbind' error message later in the script. I have installed all SLED10 patches. I would be interested to talking to anybody that has successfully joined an Active Directory environment or is having similar problems. Jim

I am in the 'similiar problems' group. But my use is from OpenSUSE. How much of the AD stuff in SLED10 is in the OpenSUSE release? I saw an article the other day that described how to do this for SLED10. It seemed to have many more dialogs than I see in my OpenSUSE 10.1. It was on one of the SUSE sites. I can dig it up if you can't find it. One other question: can you mix local user authentication with authentication against an NT domain? Either by explicitly listing the NT users or having the system try NT if the local authentication fails. I ask because the setup menus give an either/or choice, which implies you cannot use both. -- Roger Oberholtzer
