[opensuse] Thunderbird-problem
Hello all, I´m using thunderbird and I´m using e-mail alias. Like this one, which is showing you kdl@lhag.de.vu whereas I´m sending from a Hotmail-adress. This is normally working fine, so I want to do the same for my @o.o adress. You´ve got the account settings in thunderbird. I changed the e-mailadress from my hotmail one to my o.o one. I did the same with this mail adress. Here it working fine, whereas my on my o.o one the hotmail-adress is still shown. Do you know a solution? thanks a lot in advance, --kdl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Your message is not clear about where it is that "hotmail-adress is still shown.", Where is this shown. In your outgoing mail or in your settings, where? On each account you can set return address. Also scroll down to the bottom and set up multiple outgoing smtp servers, and then associate each with a different account so that outbound will always use the correct smtp server. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

You can also have several identities per account in Thunderbird. And as John wrote I'm not sure what you actually did but in general I don't see a problem with what you trying to achieve. Well, I tried to create another identity (edit -> account options -> more identities or something like that) for my account. Now, I´ve got two of them: 1.) kimleyendecker@hotmail.de 2.) leyendecker@opensuse.org Now I can choose from some adresses in the from: field when I´m writing a new e-mail. If I choose kimleyendecker@h... everything works fine, and the adress is shown in the e-mail. If I choose my o.o one, the sent e-mail still shows my hotmail-adress in the from: field: sent with first adress: from: Kim Leyendecker (kimleyendecker@hotmail.de) sent with second adress: from Kim Leyendecker (kimleyendecker@hotmail.de) desired result with second adress: from: Kim Leyendecker (leyendecker@opensuse.org) thanks, --kdl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

This sounds wrong. Could it have something to do with Hotmail? I'm using that feature regularly and haven't seen any issue with it. You can probably verify what Thunderbird is sending using wireshark (if you turn off SSL/TLS for a moment) so you can see if it's modified on server side. For example, I use gmail to send with my opensuse identity. Ie, the account is gmail, and I have some added identities. The From is correct, as you can see in this message, but inside there is a header that shows the main identity. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. I turned off SSL/TLS in the account settings with the result of not getting any mail anymore. I activated it again, and the mail I sent to myself was shown with the o.o adress. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I have never understood the multiple identity per account option, and I don't thing that is what you want to do. I think its a hold over from days when people could only have one account from their ISP and had to share it between the user and spouse or family members. With hotmail, yahoo, gmail accounts free there is no reason to do this anymore. You have multiple accounts. Use them as separate accounts. Abandon the concept of identities. Thunderbird handles separate accounts quite nicely. It will show you a "consolidated inbox" if you want, but its just an illusion to save you from having to open up different email accounts to read all your inbound. Behind the scenes everything is kept separate. When you send from your opensuse account it looks like its from opensuse because it is. When you send from hotmail is goes thru hotmail only. Return addresses, From fields all are account specific. Separate accounts. Separate inboxes separate pop/imap servers separate outbound smtp servers. Side Note: I'm also mystified where this reference to Thunderbird 2 vs Thunderbird 3 is coming from. The current release of Thunderbird is 7.0.1 for the default update channel, or 8.0 for the beta channel. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I know some examples where I still want that. I have different local aliases for my email address and certainly don't want them to end up in different mail accounts.

That's true. Thunderbird helps you with both. Nothing bad about it.
When you send from your opensuse account it looks like its from opensuse because it is. When you send from hotmail is goes thru hotmail only. Return addresses, From fields all are account specific.
Separate accounts. Separate inboxes separate pop/imap servers separate outbound smtp servers.
This immediately fails in this example since there is no email account set up for the community @opensuse.org addresses. It's only an alias to an existing account so the only way to send mail with that address is to use an "identity".
