Latest Thunderbird and Firefox for SUSE?
Firefox 1.5 Final is released. I hope we will soon have a SUSE RPM to upgrade. Thunderbird 1.07 was released long ago but the SUSE FTP folders have only the 1.06 version. I presume the SUSE developers will release a SUSE RPM soon after the 1.5 Final version is released (- currently 1.5RC1 is out). Shriramana.

You know about /pub/projects/mozilla on ftp.suse.com and its mirrors? There's where our mozilla maintainer puts new packages of firebird thunderbird and sunbird. Philipp

When 1.5 will be released I will provide packages on ftp.suse.com. (This will most likely happen in January) CU, Wolfgang -- SUSE LINUX GmbH -o) Tel: +49-(0)911-740 53 0 Maxfeldstr. 5 /\\ Fax: +49-(0)911-740 53 679 90409 Nuernberg, Germany _\_v simply change to www.suse.com

Would 1.5 be deemed a security patch as well and therefore delivered by YOU? You might have already answered this with your above comment but I'm not sure how the fpt site relates to YOU. Thanks Marcus -- Photos : www.flickr.com/photos/marcusc Blog : marcusbrain.blogspot.com

No. We will provide security patches from the 1.0.x branch as long as it is maintained.

It does not relate. Ciao, Marcus

do you know how long the 1.0.x branch is going to be maintained? What will happen when it stopped being maintained? Will 1.5.x go into YOU? The reason behind my questions are if new users of SUSE 10 are going to be kept on v1.0.x (and yes I know 1.5.x will be easily installed from adding the yast source, i assume) it might be used as a critism. Mind you 10.1 (which will I assume include 1.5.x) will be out soon so I think I'm making a moutain out of a molehill.

I assume it still wouldn't relate even if I had spelt ftp correctly ;) thanks for your answers Marcus have fun Marcus -- Photos : www.flickr.com/photos/marcusc Blog : marcusbrain.blogspot.com

I do not know how long it will be maintained. When it stops being maintained we will be forced to the upgrade to 1.5.

Why? The products are meant to stay stable and only get security and bugfixes. Adding version upgrades for packages would reduce our resources for new products which would hurt those... If you want bleeding edge software our package maintainers offer packages (Mozilla, Apache, wine, etc.), newer desktops are in the supplemental branches (GNOME, KDE) or if you want an all bleeding edge SUSE, use the Factory branch. Ciao, marcus

Yep you're right. And seeing as adding yast sources is really not hard, people can do that. have fun Marcus -- Photos : www.flickr.com/photos/marcusc Blog : marcusbrain.blogspot.com

Hi Trey There's a good outline here.. http://www.opensuse.org/Factory_Distribution In summary, "The Factory Distribution is the current state of the development for the next SUSE Linux distribution". The cutting edge code. Here be Dragons! Cheers Pete
