[opensuse] two issues with with T61p/opensuse 10.3
Hi, I installed on my new T61p openSuse 10.3. Not exactly "out of the box" but it works. 1. When wired I can get connected to internet, but when tried wireless - I can't. I can see all networks around my house and when tried to connect mine - can't? card is configured (Intel Lenovo Thikpad Card wlan-wlan0) I know SLED works fine on T61p but WiFi, that's why I tried openSuse 10.3 I use KNetwork Manager. on forums.suselinuxsupport.de, opensuse.us, suseforums.net and couple others I saw many people have the same problem. But can't see any fix? any help appreciated. 2. When connect USB drive get error message: "hal-storage-removable no <(action, result)" On google I found it's (was?) a bug. Fixs I don't understand. One mentioned as fix Yast > System > /etc/sysconfig Editor > System > Boot > RUN_PARALEL set as NO ?!?!?! thanks. -afan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

My R61 does work quite nicely: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Installing_OpenSUSE_10.3_on_a_ThinkPad_R61
1. When wired I can get connected to internet, but when tried wireless - I can't.
Which wireless card does your ThinkPad have installed? And which driver is used? I assume a Intel 4965 and, thus, iwl4965, but check this via "hwinfo --wlan" as root.

Are you able to see your network? Or did you hide it? If so, are you using encryption?

What does "rcconsolekit status" as root say? Where did you get this information? It looks like you did configure your wireless interface via YaST. But IMHO there is no need to do so if you use the NetworkManager (NETWORKMANAGER="yes" in /etc/sysconfig/network/config).
yes, iwl4965
Okay, since for the 3945, there are two drivers with different drawbacks.

Same revision here! Works fine with a WPA-TKIP encrypted network.

I can see my network, it's encrypted.
First, I would try to disable the encryption. Just to make sure that this simpler setup will work. Nonetheless, /var/log/NetworkManager should tell you much more about what is going wrong when you try to connect to your network. Some updates on this "issue": wireless access is fixed. I can access wireless - but home :( at home have DSL and wireless modem 2WIRE. and every time I try to access to network at home - I restart modem?!?!? wired computers work great. my dell inspiron 8500 with XP works great my wife's iBook works great. though, T61p with openSuse 10.3 will reboot modem. when wired it's ok, but wireless doesn't work correctly. as I said, on other networks (work, panera, library,..) works fine. just at home... any idea where to start? thanks. -afan Jan Ritzerfeld wrote:

Had similar problem. On http://en.opensuse.org/Nvidia installed nvidia. Also, the 2nd monitor MUST be connected and On when reboot laptop. There are times when you can get the card in such a state that nothing you do seems to allow it to connect. Often attempting to connect to a wired network (even if physically unconnected) will set this back to the state where it will work again. In a target rich environment (lots of APs near by) I've noticed it hunts around a bit, seemingly taking longer. -- ----------JSA--------- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Which one? 3945? Which driver do you use? For the 3945, there are two.

KNetworkManager connects my R61 wireless every day automatically when I login, without any problems.
