I then tried the rpm way of installing - and this failed because of some dependency problem :-( .
"Great way of getting things done", I thought. Then went and downloaded the tar.bz2 file from Mozilla and installed FF 5 manually. Sorry for not closing this thread to 'SOLVED'. I installed it successfully with adding *both* the mozilla and mozilla:/beta repositories.

At the time of writing this response of mine, your post (above) had not reached the opensuse help mail list. The reason why I mentioned by own experience is that the 1-click installation I mentioned above does just that: it automatically adds both repos during the process of the installation. And this 1-click installation fails because an error message comes up stating that there is "no valid data" - or some such words - in one of the above repos.
