Hi Been trying to get my 802.11b PCMCIA card working with SuSE 9.1. So far it doesn't work. The card is the Binatone WL1000 Air-link+ with 22Mbps. YaST discovers the card and tells me that it has configured it. However pinging the internal address where the card is shows that the "network is unreachable". If I then do something like 'ifconfig wlan0' I can then ping the address of the card. For example 'ping 192.168.0.3' works fine. Then I find that the gateway address cannot be added. So, packets cannot be routed out of the laptop to the net. Or, even to the wireless router or access point just next to me. Anyone make a suggestion as to what to do next ? Trying all of this doesn't work either... http://www.houseofcraig.net/acx100_howto.php I just get an error message which tells me that certain things are missing and attempts to correct the errors results in a waste of time and effort. The other question concerns suitability of hardware. What kind of wireless cards are people using out there with SuSE 9.1 on their laptops ? Although the Binatone card works with Linux it night be that some other hardware may be better. Richard www.sheflug.co.uk

You have to give us a bit more info before we can do you any good. What are the error messages? Do ifconfig and show that output, then do iwconfig wlan0 and give us that output too. Then maybe we can give you some good advice. Anything we can say right now would be a lot of speculation.

I use Belkin stuff and get it going with ndiswrapper. Ndiswrapper may help you , too. Dont know but from what you have written, you may have it going, just not set up correctly. RA
Are you using dhcp? If yes, the problem might be in how dhcpcd is started. Do "ps -ef | grep dhcpcd" after ifup wlan0, and look at the options with which it was started. Under certain conditions, when you are also using dhcp over an ethernet card, the dhcpcd options for you wireless card will prevent the setting of the gateway. I had this problem for a while, but now it is gone. I think the solution is to set the activation for the wireless card in Yast to manual (not hotplug), or to disable the ethernet card (whatever is more suitable for your setup).
