Can't access ftp site using Firefox/SuSE 9.3, but can access the site using Konqueror/SuSE 9.3.
Hi, everyone. I am not able to access an ftp site using Firefox and SuSE 9.3, but I am able to access the site using Konqueror. When I use Firefox (verson 1.0.7) I get an error box that says: 530 Sorry, no ANONYMOUS access allowed. And I am not presented with the box for inputting the password and username. When I try using Konqueror (version 3.4.0) I am presented with the box for inputting the password and username. Upon insertion I am taken to the ftp site -- no problems. Any ideas on how I can get Firefox to allow me access to the password/user box and, thus, to the ftp site? Thanks! Gil

Hi Gil, Have you tried using the following format in the address bar when trying to access the site? "ftp://username:password@ftp.domain.ext" regards, - Carl

Hi Gil,

"ftp://username:password@ftp.domain.ext"

Hi, Carl. Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, that does allow me access. :o) It gives me a list of files that I can access (these happen to be video clips that I can play). But I don't see that I have the ability to do a drag and drop (as I can using Konqueror) if I want to upload a file to the ftp site. Is there an easy way to upload files to the ftp site using the method you suggested? Maybe it's obvious and I just don't know how. Thanks! Gil

It is really, really hard to answer these kinds of questions without knowing anything about the site and how it is set up. There are just too many variables, so I'd be offering only guesswork. You really should be looking for answers in the instructions and FAQs maintained at the site in question. I'll bet everything you need to know is available there. If you want, e-mail the address to me off-list and I'll poke around for some answers... - Carl

konkeror doubles as a file manager; I don't think mozilla/firefox has that ability. Try a full blown ftp client, like gpft, for example. - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFDnxyPtTMYHG2NR9URAn22AJ4glfdtiVuCleNPpyjuHKuTO3cazQCfaSQL rdqn82Ru8QV3drlEWzQ4Q8Q= =dBWR -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
