[opensuse] KDE unable to login as user
ref opensuse 10.3 /KDE thinkpad x40 Problem: kdm loads ok and the login dialog shows up. If I choose root everything is OK. If I chose user1 starts to log but the graphics hangs for ever and it does not login. What I tried: 1. I checked the permission of /home. I did root.root recursively and then user1.users recursively. 2. delete /tmp 3. rename /home/user1/.kde 4. rm ~/.ICEauthority and ~/.Xauthority 5. Run sax2 and reset the graphic card 6. I created a new user /home/user2 . It does not login either. Previous actions: Everything was working well until I did a big upgrade with smart. kde and qt were upgraded. For some reason I am concern about qt upgrade. I do have a backup but I am interested in know why this happened. A couple of weeks ago the same occur in my desktop. There I use a full system restore. There are other threads in the net with the same problem but not good answers. Any tips? -=terry(Denver)=- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
I don't know if this will help but when you created a new user did you use the graphical editor or did you create it by hand in the console with useradd -m <user name> then setting the password with passwd <user name> I would try doing it both ways to see if it helps. Also is there anything in the message or error logs or dmesg or ctrl+alt +f10. That might indicate what the problem or help point you in a direction. Good luck, Shawn Holland On Fri, 2008-05-30 at 13:47 -0600, Teruel de Campo MD wrote:

Shawn, Thanks for the reply. 1. I use yast. After your reading the message I created another one using CLI and the same. 2. dmesg did not gave me a clue of the problem. I long /var/log/Xorg.0.log that I have to digest more ;-) This is weird. It happened also in my desktop but I there I just restore the system from backup. There are many users with the same problem. I am sure is something simple but I can not find it. Thxs for you help. -=terry(Denver)=- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
