I then decided to re-install openSUSE 13.2 from DVD, and have now got a bootable system, but when I login as my user, the sequence stops after displaying the hard drive icon. i.e. no desktop, world, toolkit etc. I can do a graphical login as root (I know I shouldn't, and I shutdown the machine as soon as I'd seen that it worked), so what do I need to edit/delete in ~/bob to be able to load the KDE4 desktop. I think everything may be all right. Did you try to boot the system with the NO KMS parameter? I think your system might have settings in KDE or GTK that are not feasible without the nvidia driver. To get a normal boot you will have to choose that option. If it starts, it will then be enough to put it as a fixed boot parameter (or to change the video driver again if you want to try again with nvidia). --- Alle Postfächer an einem Ort.
