[opensuse] Boot failure on Acer Laptop
System == Acer Spire 5102WLMI AMD64 dual core OS == openSuSE 11.1 Kernel == 2.6.27.7-9-pae.i686 Problem: intermittent failure if boot process. The last line on the screen is: ACPI processor limited to max C-state 1 I've seen this several times lately, and I'm wondering what is causing the the boot to stop at this point and what can be done to remedy the situation. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi Mike, ACPI is a power management specification, and has been known to cause problems with Linux in the past. You may want to try disabling it. A quick search on google should point the way. Hope this helps. Jesse

the same is happening to me in an HP dv6319 eu Laptop, with opensuse 64 bits It began in the last two weeks, i think it was before a kernel upgrade. I'm running on Linux aragorn 2.6.27.19-3.2-default #1 SMP 2009-02-25 15:40:44 +0100 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I have googled a bit, and some guys points to a kernel patch but I have to dig more to see If this can be avoided with some boot parameter. If anyone knows a solution It would be greatly appreciated. thanks -- Un Saludo. Carlos Lorenzo Matés. clmates AT mundo-r.com

Google finds that message about 18000 times, search there to see if there is some clue. I think there are parameters to tailor that c state. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Yes it shows up in boot logs, even during good boots, seems to be laptop related (surprise). I just find it odd that I didn't have it on this same machine under 10.3 and 11.0. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'm going to hazard a guess that the problem is the kernel running on the laptop. Try replacing kernel-pae with kernel-default. Nkoli -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I use kernel-default and have the same issue And in 11.1 begun only a few weeks ago, but I don't remember exactly at what kernel upgrade i get this bug, because I upgrade my system almost everyday Thanks -- Un Saludo. Carlos Lorenzo Matés. clmates AT mundo-r.com
