[opensuse] bash profile will not adjust settings
Hi all, I am setting up my laptop with OS 11.4 32 bit and KDE 4.6.00. Just a few setup problems. First of all, I have a high resolution monitor, so all my fonts are small. I am working on that. But the first thing I want to adjust is the profile setting on bash. I go to settings -> configure profiles -> edit profile, and I try to change from small font black background with green color to white or anything else, and it won't adjust. I tried to slide the slider bar to make the font bigger, and on the dialog box it shows a bigger font, but it does not take the bigger font. The "apply" button doesn't do anything, or gray out or apply any changes no matter what changes I make. I have made the adjustment on my other pc with no problem. It seems like the application of any changes I make is disabled, whether I hit the apply button or the ok button. What other information do I need to post here in order to troubleshoot? In Konsole there is. My guess is that's what George is talking about. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (21.6°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

If one asks a question in a list such as this, nobody should have to guesstimate what they mean: the question should contain the details which they are talking about. Responding simply on "guesstimates" only creates speculative, and almost always useless, verbage which clutters up this (or some other) mail list. If the OP was talking about Konsole then he should have mentioned it. I am not a mind reader, neither am I a psychic, so being specific when asking for help is essential :-) . I, for example, simply ignore posts which contain meaningless subject headings such as, "Help!". BC -- "Facts are stupid things." Believe he means in konsole. What kind of laptop, what video drivers, what versions? I've got a Dell Studio 1745 which makes those changes okay. Ah yes, sorry. It is konsole. My laptop is a Dell Latitude D820, with a 1920x1200 res monitor, which is why things show up so small by default. In the configuration settings for KDE I set the fonts for all GUI apps to be larger so that I can see them. However on the terminal side of konsole I can't adjust anything. My system info says has this listed for the model: Vendor: nVidia Corporation Model: Quadro NVS 110M/GeForce Go 7300 2D driver: nouveau 3D driver: swrast (No 3D Acceleration) (7.10)) then I also got the hardware info from YaST, and this is what it gave me, basically the same: Hardware Class: graphics card Model: "nVidia Quadro NVS 110M/GeForce Go 7300" Vendor: pci 0x10de "nVidia Corporation" Device: pci 0x01d7 "Quadro NVS 110M/GeForce Go 7300" SubVendor: pci 0x1028 "Dell" SubDevice: pci 0x01cc Revision: 0xa1 Driver: "nouveau" Driver Modules: "drm" Thanks, George -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

George, Are you trying to change the profile as ordinary user or as root? Are you trying to change one of the default profiles? Trying to change one of the default profiles as an ordinary user doesn't work because they are owned by root and not writable for ordinary users. These profiles are stored in directory "/usr/share/kde4/apps/konsole". For an ordinary user, the best option is to create a new profile and change that. Well, the thing is, on my desktop I have changed the profile multiple times as an ordinary user without any problem. It is only on this installation on this laptop that it doesn't work. In the directory /usr/share/kde4/apps/konsole it has all the different color schemes listed. I don't need to change any of those color schemes. On the konsole menu when you go to the settings menu and go settings -> configure profiles -> edit (select the shell), and then click on the appearance tab, that is where you select one of the color schemes which is listed in the above directory. On my desktop I can freely change these color schemes and adjust the font size there, and it is no problem. On my laptop, no matter which color scheme I select, it does not apply the change, and it is always green on black with 9 pt font. I always make my Konsole4 appearance change via right click in the window -> configure current profile, not by going into the Konsole's menu. Whoever dreamed up using a green prompt on a black background for the default should be forced to use only an 11" or smaller screen at 1280x800 or higher resolution, and from at least a meter away from his face. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Great - that worked! I wonder why the other method didn't work? So yes, now I can use konsole. Thanks for your help!! George -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

When you are in the konsole, right-click and select Configure Current Profile; then select Appearance>Tabs>Edit Fonts. As simple as falling off a log :-) . BC -- "Facts are stupid things."
