[opensuse] chromium hangouts
13.2 Hi The hangouts extension in chromium version 41 (the one in the current 13.2 update repository) crashes. I installed v40 from opensuse.org which cures hangouts crash. But now, if I do a Yast update, it always tries to install v41. Is there a fix? Thanks. By any chance, do you have chromium-ffmpeg v40 from packman installed? If so, install chromium-ffmpegsumo instead. These crashes always happen after a major update until packman has updated, too. chromium-ffmpeg has to be uninstalled. chromium-ffmpeg conflicts with chromium-ffmpegsumo. You should not be able to install them both. YaST will ask you to remove chromium-ffmpeg if you try to install chromium-ffmpegsumo.
Do I then do the zypper update to get 41?
Open YaST. Then update chromium to v41, install chromium-ffmpegsumo und let YaST uninstall chromium-ffmpeg.
Is hangouts a separate package?
No. The crash is not specific to hangouts. Many other web sites crash, too. Gruß Jan -- Everything needs a little oil now and then. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Gruß Jan Thanks for the clear instructions. I now have 41 with chromium-ffmpegsumo. Unfortunately YouTube videos now take ages to start. It looks like 40 with chromium-ffmpeg is the only way. I wonder if there is a way I can say, 'update everything except chromium*'? B

Works fine here. Maybe a configuration problem? You could try it with a new user.

Depends. You can "taboo - never install" chromium within YaST. Gruß Jan -- When two men in business always agree, one of them is unnecessary. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Am I to understand that Chrome runs a version of liux within the browser? I heard that on a security show today. Ruben

On all the windows clients chrome 38 works fine for the users that don't work on 13.2 with 41. 40 or 41 with ffmpegsumo is not an option. Dunno. Bad luck? Wait until the next update? Thanks B

1. The official chromium version in openSUSE 13.2 is v40. 2. As soon as openSUSE 13.2 officially moves to v41, packman will update chromium-ffmpeg to v41.

If you installed chromium from the development project repository network:chromium, just open a bug report. However, I suspect that you did something wrong when adding or switching to network:chromium. Because, YaST would never ask you to update from the official chromium version to the one of network:chromium *unless* you explicitly allow such a vendor change: https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Vendor_change_update Gruß Jan -- Individualists Unite! -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I think the problem is that users have different caches. If you happened to use the client with the 41, it now doesn’t work on a client a non updated client with 40. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

This should downgrade chromium. However, it might downgrade other packages as well or upgrade other packages.

Yes, you might have to replace the profile with a backup. Regarding youtube: Without chromium-ffmpeg, videos using restricted formats will be played with flash. Maybe you have a flash problem. Do you have chromium-pepper-flash from packman installed? Yes, you might have to replace the profile with a backup. Moral of the story. I suppose it's laziness: upgrade all the 13.2 clients at the same sitting, not one by one. Thanks for pointers. B
