[opensuse] Help me liberate my smartphone!!!
I'm sick of running a closed OS on my phone, and using closed apps. At the very least I'd like to flash it with Cyanogen mod or some such... though I'd rather have Firefox OS or WebOS. Any suggestions? I'm tired of this broken, spying mess from Verizon. I know this isn't exactly openSUSE specific, but I can think of no better community than my own to answer this quest. *Problem with Cyanogen mod is that their DL links seem to be broken. -- Roger Luedecke openSUSE Ambassador -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I had thought of that, but know how few are subscribed there. And its not too far of a stretch to think it is openSUSE related, considering the computing freedom represented by openSUSE.
Then you could consider subscribing to ubuntu-* as you will find *more* subscribers there. It appears to be good logic, at least as good as you have applied, and is *definitely* _not_ "on-topic" here. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

OOOOOPPppsss! My bad. I apologize to everyone on the list. I saw that the OP had also posted to the "off topic" list. My age befuddled brain got it's wires crossed again and I thought Patrick had posted on the "off topic" list not this one. I should really pay more attention to the "To;" address in the box above sometimes. And pointless. I have frequently flashed and rooted and hacked on both webos and android on several devices (and wince and palm devices way before those...) and I know a lot about that question, but I'm here, not on off-topic. He specifically wanted to reach people he thought might have a clue, not other blind gropers. Personally I still don't appreciate abusing collections of knowledgeable people like that though and won't respond to that topic here regardless, so it was pointless to post here as well as it would have been in off-topic. The real place of course is xda-developers. People on other techie lists I'm on do the same thing "hey you guys are all so smart I know you know what this other problem is..." True, we are and usually do, but we didn't go to that list to talk about that topic, thanks for hijacking our time and attention from what we chose to what you chose. Ok I guess I did respond here, and it employed exactly the quality knowledge he was hoping to tap, by pointing to xda-developers. And to say that it's too big of a subject to start from scratch here. ;) It's also true that, having both been here a while, we are slightly more than utter stranger list members and I will accept a casual question from someone I know, here or anywhere same as if we passed on the street, simply because we know each other. Order is good and all, but we are actually people not machines. -- bkw -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Roger, You did not mention what kind of Smart phone, model... Anyway, there a few projects outside openSUSE community like Android, CynogenMod, Replicant, http://shr-project.org/trac , Tizen, Mer, Meego, even Ubuntu making their own space on smartphone niche. May find your best adaptation for your hardware. O, you are right. Motorola Droid 2 on Verizon. The Ubuntu for android could be interesting. I'd bet it wouldn't be too hard to redo into an openSUSE for Android. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
