[opensuse] KDE 4.3.4 Finally allows banishing Activities
I updated to 4.3.4 and found immediately that my desktop activities had decided to re-arrange themselves again. I went in to delete the rogue activity, but alas, even unlocked there is no RED X with which to remove the spare activities that have spawned by themselves. (Why is that so hard?) Anyway, while playing around I noticed it was possible to individually set each desktop to be a Plain Desktop. This is in addition to the two prior choices of Folder view and Default. With Plain Desktop Selected, you are finally back to what we had in KDE3 (and every other desktop system) with the ability to put a wallpaper on each desktop and expect it to stay. Gone too is the Cashew, and widgets. No loss in my opinion, I use applications, not having found any of the dysfunctional widgets worth while. But the news is the CHOICE of desktop type is PER desktop, so you can have it both ways. I haven't had time to determine if this feature is as Stable as it looks. But it looks like a years worth of bitching about activities finally paid out. -- A computer without Microsoft is like a chocolate cake without mustard. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

At least you got a desktop! :-) I installed 11.2, and have picked every desktop package in 11.2 to install -- and None of them are offored or come up when I log in. I get a whitish, plain login screen and then nothing, by default. I tried kdm, and I see the kde jumping icon theme after I login, but when it's done, I see an HTML readme (welcome!) and an xconsole and nothing else -- no menu options, no clicks work. desktop might as well be locked up since I can't get out of it at that point other than to power-cycle the machine (no response to CTL-ALT-DEL)... Who knows, maybe it is hung? Sigh. Too many things on my plate to debug it now, so it's lying fallow... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
I spent some time in 11.2/KDE4 today on my laptop. I ended up reinstalling 11.0/KDE3. Oh well. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I have downloaded, but not installed 11.2. When I get a round tuit, I'll install 11.2 on a spare computer. However, based on what I've been reading, I doubt I'll be installing it on any system I use regularly. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I've noticed that thread, but have no clue what would cause that. You might see if the machine is reachable by ssh. Either that or boot with the install cd, and mount / and edit inittab so that it boots to run level 3. Might be easier to debug. -- A computer without Microsoft is like a chocolate cake without mustard. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I had a similar problem on my machine with a legacy Nvidia card and had to go back to the nv driver. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
