[opensuse] Re: style posting provides useful information; Simple HTML should also be allowed.

Or, more often than not (99.999999995% of the time), the HTML is just a 300% overhead for absolutely NO benefit, not counting all of the stupid sparkly crap graphics that some morons seem to think improve their messages, while in fact, just guaranteeing that I will delete it for being a waste of space.
Reread what I said. You are not getting my message. I said HTML supported by pictures showing relevant design content or problems -- and NO flash (or flashy) graphics. I say what I mean and what I don't mean and then you throw out examples that I explicitly say are off limits. Are you dense, or just trying to provoke argument?
I really don't need 5-line messages that take 1 MB of disk space.
HTML doesn't take 1MB of space. it may be 3K, or 5K instead of 1K, but that's pinching pennies in this day and age.
You go onto microsoft lists, and probably apple lists -- and HTML is far more common.
I guess if you're a person who values style over substance, than I suggest migrating to Vista.
You guess wrong. I don't value style OVER substance, but substance without style won't sell to the masses. Why are there so many *styles* of cars? Of clothing? To appeal to people. *function* is *assumed*, it's the basic thing that should fit into the background. But style is what sells the products -- usability, style, plug-n-play, ease-of-use -- not whether it can computer the n'th digit of pi better or faster than another machine. Look at the market -- people are downgrading function for style and ease of carrying, portability -- notebooks are replacing lap tops because they still have the functions, but the styling of the product (size, weight, etc) are winning the day. Ignore style and you deny yourself the ability to sell your ideas -- it doesn't make your ideas any less intelligent or more intelligent, but it affects the the masses who we, as tech people, need to support us in developing cool tech. Every time someone slaps someone else's hand for showing a different 'style (writing by posting on top as example), they putting people off. All I'm saying is that stylistics rules should be relatively relaxed in a casual discussion or help forum to allow people to communicate in whatever way they best can (with restrictions as I previously mentioned). The problem with so many tech people, is its all black or white. A or B. They work too long with computers. People aren't binary and neither should be rules. I value style without substance is worthless, but equally, substance without style is ugly or unwanted. It starts here. -l -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

100 % agree. The size comes from the graphics and the flash. Graphics I know for a fact are attachments. That is a different discussion than allowing html. ie. The list could allow multi-part mime encoded email with both plain text and html,.but not allow attachments. Or allow only one or two attachments, but not 20 or 30 like complex marketing emails use. I assume flash also comes in as an attachment, but I have never looked into how a raw email looks that has embedded flash. I doubt insulting tech people enhances the acceptance of your point of view. Substance without style may be ugly, (in your opinion), but it is also efficient. When someone posts here looking for answers they want those answers in the quickest and most efficient way. This isn't a casual discussion list. This is a high volume mutual tech support list. HTML formating adds nothing to that end. You have totally failed to make a convincing point here. You have failed to convince me that disallowing HTML turns any significant number of users off, or drives them away. Would you have been better able to do so if you used HTML? -- ----------JSA--------- Someone stole my tag line, so now I have this rental. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
