Using Top, I see a lot of activity going on at something called artsd. Don't know that program and could not find anything on it. And when I leave KDE for the console on my 7.3 version. I see a lot of errors showing up. Warning: leaving MCOP Dispatcher and still 13 references alive This is followed by a whole bunch of: Arts:: Sample storage etc... The last line reads as Warning: leaving MCOP Dispatcher and still 155 types alive. I do not like such messages and want to stop them. How? and what do they mean?

I don't use KDE but I remember when I played with it, ARTSD was an alternative sound system manager in KDE. Look in kde, configuration, sound and it gives you a choice of which sound system to use. -- $|=1;while(1){print pack("h*",'75861647f302d4560275f6272797f3');sleep(1); for(1..16){for(8,32,8,7){print chr($_);}select(undef,undef,undef,.05);}}

Artsd is the KDE sound server. I've found I'm better off by using the ALSA drivers and disabling artsd on startup, at least on a i810. You might want to try that. HTH - Jeff --

I'm pretty sure it is a sound server to handle multiple PCM streaming at one time. So you can listen to mp3 with xmms while playing with a game using the same sound device (CMIIW) -- Powered by SuSE Linux 7.3 Personal KMail 1.3.1
