You can get really fast IO subsystems with SCSI but from my point of view you need to look at costs too. SCSI is expensive, so if you don't need it I recommend to don't buy it. I have Linux in some machines with IDE disks and I put it under middle/low stress with great results. In any case, if you need or want to use SCSI try Adaptec or Mylex (DAC960/1100 Series works great) Luck.
