[SuSE Linux] Resume unfinished downloads in Netscape 4.5?
Is there any way to pick up and resume a download that was not completed, and have it start up where it left off, rather than re-write the file and start over? I'm 79 0one downloading StarOffice 5.0, and I lost my connection. I'd hate to have to start this one over! I shudder to mention it, but Win95 (and even Win3.1) has always simply started from the point of disconnection, and finished the download. This feature would be great in Linux. ------------------------------------------- Man's mind is his basic tool of survival!
I noticed that version 4.5 of Netscape did resume downloads for me few times when I was downloading using ftp. I am not sure whether it will resume an http download though. Avi Lawrence Sayre wrote:

Been there a few times myself;-) I've always been able to reconnect and resume by reloading the page and click on the file again - at the prompt about overwriting just answer no and it will pick up the download where it left off. (Percent and time remaining will, of course, be way off.) -- Henry White mailto:henryw@gte.net - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

You can use wget for this. Change to the directory with the downloaded file and start wget -c <A HREF="ftp://some.url</A">ftp://some.url</A> Ciao, Stefan - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

I realize this is not exactly the answer you're looking for, but wget will do that. It will resume where it left off if it gets interrupted. It will run from a command line, in the background, or from a cron job. Netscape is handy for finding things, but not always the best way to download things. I usually poke around with netscape til I find the proper URL of the file I want, then go back with wget to retrieve it. Especially if it's a large download. -- Bud Rogers <budr@sirinet.net> <A HREF="http://www.sirinet.net/~budr/zamm.html</A">http://www.sirinet.net/~budr/zamm.html</A> - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
