[opensuse] compiz fusion on native nvidia
Hi everyone I have the latest compiz-git stuff up without xgl under nvidia. It really is getting stable. Stunning. Two small problems: logging out freezes to the point of having to reboot. Under xgl it logged out smoothly. I used to be able to have a choice of kde and then when kde was up replacing it with compiz. --replace kwin again locks solid. now I always get compiz/emerald. I know this is early days but just wondered if anyone else was going down the same path as me. 10.2 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

me too! i have exactly the same problem. and i dind't find anything in the forum or anywhere else on http://compiz.org/ CyberOrg? is there anything you could tell us about that?
I used to be able to have a choice of kde and then when kde was up replacing it with compiz. --replace kwin again locks solid. now I always get compiz/emerald.
i do it this way: in /usr/share/xsessions i have (beside the original-files for kde and gnome) a seperate xsession-file for compiz and one for beryl. so every time, i am at the login-screen, i am able to change the type of session i want to use. i select kde, or "kde with beryl" or "kde with compiz". then i log in, and started will be that compositing-manager i selected. very easy. very smooth.
I know this is early days but just wondered if anyone else was going down the same path as me.
i hope this "freezing after logout" bug is fixed soon, because with this compiz-git is unusable for me. -- einen schönen Tag noch, & bitte kein TOFU (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/TOFU) DI Rainer Klier Abteilung IT - Entwicklung ECOLOG Logistiksysteme GmbH Bauernstraße 11, A-4600 Wels Tel. ++43/7242/66200 Fax ++43/7242/66200-200 mailto:kra@ecolog.at http://www.ecolog.at Fb-Nummer 171431f Landesgericht Wels A member of TGW LOGISTICS GROUP -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi cyberorg just gave a solution to this in the last post in the thread. My own workaround goes like this: user still in compiz session crtl+alt+F1 root logs in init 3 init 5 user starts new graphical session I know it's a pain but I think that if we don't report this stuff it makes it more difficult for the guys at cyberorg to debug and fix it. hth Steve. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

What repository have you installed from? How are you running it? How was it installed? Currently I used Beryl w/ XGL and it runs great for me.. I've used Compiz - Fusion on Ubuntu with native Nvidia drivers and it was jumpy and not as smooth as Beryl w/ XGL.. How are you running compiz? launch with: compiz --replace ccp & kde-window-decorator --replace& Ctrl+alt+F1 -> log in and: killall -9 compiz few times in very quick succession, till you get no process killed. Ctrl+Alt+F7 -> kwin --replace& (this will get kwin running instead of compiz)

Hopefully using one-click installer developed by Benji :) http://dev.beryl-project.org/~cyberorg/suse/38/want-to-take-compiz-fusion-fo... Have fun! -J -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The cyberorg repo under /download/home:/cyberorg/openSUSE_10.2/
How are you running it?
compiz --replace ccp &
How was it installed?
yast

No.
http://dev.beryl-project.org/~cyberorg/suse/38/want-to-take-compiz-fusion-f or-a-test-ride/
Those instructions don't work. Please read the user comments at the bottom of your page. I clicked compiz-git-all in yast and the rest of the packages pulled in themselves. Is that correct?
Have fun!

Thanks for the tips. Everything works now. Is this project still under development? I mean the shift plugin is superb. It would be a pity to drop it now. Cheers and thanks for the tips Steve. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Now it does :-) But doesn't it amount to the same as installing compiz-git-all via yast having added the cyberorg repository? I think the link should be: http://dev.beryl-project.org/~cyberorg/suse/38/ as: http://dev.beryl-project.org/~cyberorg/suse/38/want-to-take-compiz-fusion-fo... gives a 404 error S -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

xgl slows stuff down here. Thats why I switched to nvidia

You can use emerald -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
