Hi. I am running SuSE 8.1, and have problems with my soundcard. Before I used the onboard soundcard, but wasn't satisfied with it. The new soundcard is an ES1868F, and it is working ok in WIN98SE. I started up Linux, and the soundcard was found. I went through the set up, but have not touched any of the possible adjustment parameters. The problem is, that ist not working. It gives a blop in the loudspeakers when I start up linux. Nothing else. Can anybody help me ?. Alsa tells that the soundcard possibly is not yet configured. -- Med venlig hilsen - Best regards - vy73 de OZ4KK. Alsa tells that the soundcard possibly is not yet configured.
Have you used the sound card setup module in YaST? Use this module to configure and test the sound card. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Everything you'll ever need on one web page from News and Sport to Email and Music Charts http://uk.my.yahoo.com

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have used Yast2. Here there are more options, that I do not know to set. The soundcard is an old ISA.

Have you checked that there are no dma or irq conflicts with other devices? Oh, and you HAVE disabled the onboard sound device in the BIOS, haven't you! Dylan -- "Sweet moderation Heart of this nation Desert us not, we are Between the wars"

Hi Dylan. No I have not. Is this to be viewed under /proc ?.
Oh, and you HAVE disabled the onboard sound device in the BIOS, haven't you!
Yes I have :-)

Probably, but I usually look in the hardware info in YaST - it's easier!

Much easier. The onboard soundcard is still mentioned there, and it also is detected if going into Yast2->hardware->sound. Maybe it has nothing to say, and it IS removed in the BIOS. -- Med venlig hilsen - Best regards - vy73 de OZ4KK. Yeah, I've seen disabled on-board devices listed in various places, they just don't work. I suppose it's cos Linux is sensible enough to not always believe the BIOS. Still, it might be related to the problem... Dylan -- "Sweet moderation Heart of this nation Desert us not, we are Between the wars"

I'm afraid you are right. I still can see the onboard soundcard under Yast.

Merry Christmas
I have seen that on some motherboards you have to switch the jumper to open,
directly on the motherboard to get the onboard sound disengaged. That could
be another way for you if the bios is not doing its job ;-)
