Subject: Handspring/USB & 90-day Installation Support
Everyone,
I am having difficult in two (maybe three) areas of SuSE 7.0. The
first deals with my new Handspring Visor and the USB synchronization
port. I have already configured the /etc/rc.config.d/usb.rc.config to
load the usb-serial module. Upon booting, SuSE detects the Handspring
Visor and prints a configuration message for the serial modules;
howeverm when attempting to open any of the /dev/ttyUSB* devices, I
receive a "open: No such device error". Here is some output in ASCII
format.
Also, has anyone every been able to get support from SuSE's 90-day
installation support guarantee? I e-mailed them on Sunday (Dec. 10,
2000) but have yet to hear back from them. I attempted to call their
installation support number but after being on hold for more than 45
minutes, I gave up. The most disappointing part is that I like SuSE's
distro, I always have. I am the chairperson of the local LUG and
usually recommend Mandrake or SuSE. Given that most newbies have ALOT
of installation questions, if this is the common response to the 90-day
installation support incidents, I would no longer feel comfortable
recommending SuSE.
Please note, this is not meant to sound like a threat, I have never
used Mandrake's installation support, and although USB may not be
considered installation support, (I believe) SuSE lead the backporting
of 2.4's USB to the 2.2 kernel, therefore one would expect them to have
knowledge of it.
Sincerely,
Matthew Porter
