In inittab, I have the lines: I6:23:respawn:/usr/sbin/vboxgetty -d /dev/ttyI6 I7:23:respawn:/usr/sbin/vboxgetty -d /dev/ttyI7 but they don't start up when I boot, nor when I do 'init q'. However, I can run the lines: /usr/sbin/vboxgetty -d /dev/ttyI6 & /usr/sbin/vboxgetty -d /dev/ttyI7 & from the console. Any ideas why they won't run from the init process? There are no messages in the logfiles at all when I run them from the init, but the log files are normal when run from a console. With no sign of an error anywhere, I don't know where to start. TIA jalal BTW, some time back I mentioned that I could not play the incoming messages from the vboxgetty using SuSE8.0. I solved the problem by copying over the vboxplay script from a SuSE 7.1 installation and making /usr/sbin/susevboxplay point to the script.
