Uncomment ftp line in /etc/inetd.conf file Best regards Alexey -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Interesting, I can ftp fine, but I became curious after seeing Alexey's comment. I looked in my /etc/inetd.conf file and found three ftp lines, one uncommented. What role do they play in my ability to use an ftp program? ftp stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd wu.ftpd -a # ftp stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd proftpd # ftp stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.ftpd Just curious George On Wed, 29 Dec 1999, you wrote:

Did you remember to install an ftp daemon (wuftp or proftp)? Did you check YaST/System Administration/Change Configuration File to set the status of START_FTP? -- -=|JP|=- Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions -o) jpennington@atipa.com | http://www.atipa.com /\\ Kansas City, MO, USA | 816-241-2641 _\_V -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

I had the same problem with 6.2, though not with 6.3. I selected the default installation. The ftp line in /etc/inetd.conf file had wu.ftpd uncommented (I think), but yast installed in.ftpd, not wu.ftpd. (I could have that backwards.) The solution is either (1) run yast to install the ftp daemon that matches your /etc/inetd.conf or (2) uncomment the line in /etc/inetd.conf that matches the ftpd yast has already installed. I took the easy way out and did #2.
