I tried xfmail and overall liked it. The author has put some time in developing its interface and the controls that you can use to change aspects of the program. I think its a powerful program which offers some nice functionality. Someone else recommended Ishmail and its also quite nice. Im a registered user of Ishmail but yet do not use it. I really like tkrat 1.2 more than about anything I have ever used except for one rather neat little win32 program called The_Bat. Tkrat really works the way I do. Its folder views are quite well done and it seems to have a lot of power under the hood. I dont really use its database technology whatsoever. The ability to map virtual folders, write expressions, and a whole bunch of other stuff makes tkrat a really good client which I miss if I travel with a win9x laptop. -- Michael E. As I'm planning on making the transition from Eudora to XFMail, I'd like to hear about your findings---could you share them on this list perhaps? Unfortunately Eudora does not run too well with Wine,(Pegasus does) judging from the postings in comp.emulators.ms- windows.wine and >QualComm, <A HREF="http://eudora.qualcomm.com/"><A HREF="http://eudora.qualcomm.com/</A">http://eudora.qualcomm.com/</A</A>>, does not seem to be planning >on porting Eudora to Linux...
From Eric. The review........ I should explain before I get started that I'm a Pegasus Mail nut and therefore not the sort of person who should be let loose on this list ;-> I am well aware that Netscape mail is one of the best mail systems that's going around these days. So I won't try to say anything about that :) XF Mail seems to be one of the better mail systems that I have come across. It has many features that are not available on other mailers. Even Pegasus Mail for Windows. One of the more outstanding features is that it encourages seamless integration of PGP into the Linux X-windows environment. This is something of a shock at first. I hadn't thought that point and click PGP was part of X-windows. All of the other (many) features that are there have made me think that MS windows is no longer needed for my own personal use. However, it's a sad fact of life that I'm stuck with it. XF Mail is only matched by K Mail which comes with the KDE desktop. K Mail has a more sophisticated GUI. It isn't better than XF Mail, however. My only complaint about XF Mail is that it doesn't have an up to date FAQ or Howto file on compiling PGP 5.0i which can be downloaded from the international PGP page. If anyone can point me towards the appropriate web site for info about PGP and how a beginner can use the source code with XF Mail and Linux it would be greatly appreciated.
