Check for the existence of /proc/apm... If it's not there then that's probably your problem. You'll probably have to recompile your kernel looking for other options. You might want to check that the 'halt -p' command is working properly. Go to a console (after shutting everything else down), do a 'killall5 -TERM' and then a 'killall5 -KILL', unmount all of your filesystems with 'umount -a', then do a 'halt -p'. If your computer switches itself off then APM is working. Your options are then to either have another think, or to hardcode the 'halt -p' into your shutdown script (/sbin/init.d/halt). Try adding: append="amp=on" to your lilo.conf file. Then re-run lilo.
